Research Associate position in Prairie Hydrology

The Watershed Systems Research Program (WSRP) based at the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg, Canada) invites applications for a one-year Research Associate position in Hydrology. The successful candidate will support a provincial research chair tasked with enhancing the collective knowledge on runoff generation processes and associated water quality dynamics in the Lake Winnipeg Basin. The successful candidate will be:

* Undertaking research on water, sediment and nutrient connectivity in Prairie landscapes;

* Involved in all components of the research program, including field work and lab work;

* Working closely with research partners from government, industry and NGOs; and

* Taking a leadership role in student supervision, project management and peer-reviewed publication.

Required qualifications

* PhD (awarded in the last four years) in the natural sciences or engineering, with a specialization in hydrology. Exceptional MSc graduates will also be considered;

* Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, MATLAB and/or R, and ArcGIS;

* Ability to work independently;

* Experience in using and troubleshooting hydrological field instruments.

Asset qualifications

* Knowledge of Canadian Prairie hydrology;

* Experience with isotope hydrology, dye tracing studies and/or water quality studies;

* Experience with laboratory work and/or hydrologic models.

Salary and starting date

* Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience and include a staff benefits package.

* The one-year position will start on 1 April 2015 with the possibility of a renewal for an additional year (or more) contingent upon funding.
